Spider Man 2.

Before: The Deals= $30million.
Script and Development= $10million. Only 5% of the total budget goes towards the script. The writed David Koepp got an eight figured cheque that day Some unpaid script doctors were brought in to rewrite certain scenes.
Licensing= $20million. Marvel owns the spider man character but then sony brought right to in in 1999. There has been ongoing fueds since and this made the price go higher. Stan Lee is the co-creater of spider man but acts as a executive producer for spider man 2. Marvel pay him $1million which is £540,000.

During: The Shoot= $100million.
The big money is given to the stars. A traditional weekly wage is given to the director and producer; this money is known 'above the line' costs and have to be paid even before cameras can role.
Producers= $15million. Big movies may have many producers. Spider man 2 had- two producers, one co-producer and three executive producers.
Director= $10million, Director is now usually chosen after casting. If the director diasgrees with a scene then changes it and can ask a large amount of money for doing their job. The Columbia Pictures chairman was suprised that Sam Raimi was hired as the director because he was not that famous.
Cast= $30million. Heath Ledger passed the role and then was given to Toby Maguire. For spider man he was paid $4million and for the sequel was offered $17million! Kirstin Dunst was paid $5-$6million and the new baddie, Alfred Molina $1million. The rest of the cast picked up £3million and the actors, agents and managers left with 10-15% of the clients' pay day,
Below the line= $45million. These are physical production expenses, including crew fees. Also: hiring and operating new equipment, occupying and leaving location and above all getting thousands of crew members. April 12th 2003 in New York, Spider Man 2 started to shoot and they spent 3weeks shooting in different locations.

After: The Edit= $70million.
Special effects= $65million. Alot of money is spent on editing, along with the 'above the line' costs this is another major part.
Music= $5million. Only 2% from budget spent on this. Danny Elfman did it for spider man for $2million. Sony made soundtrack which included songs by Jet and Train. Came number 4 on US charts and sold more than 2million copies worldwide.
Prints & Advertising= $75million. This is not included in budget, more is spent on it other than the $200million already spent.

Final Box Figures: $821million worldwide.

People and Cinema.

During today's lesson, we surveyed many people in the class and asked them about whether they went to cinema in the past week or not. We took down their names and asked them about the cinema, where it was based and what they brought.
The first result we recieved was from Purdey. She went to VUE cinema as it was the closest to her and brought a ticket for £1.25 as it was Kids AM. The films she watched was Mr.Poppers Penguins and the cinema was packed out with little children. She brought popcorn along side the film ticket for something to go with the film which cost £5.
Secondly, Luke went to a cinema up north which had only 2 screens and has 3 people running it. He watched Johnny English Reloaded. He didn't like it and fell asleep through it. He went around 12pm in the day and it has a video and game buying area.
Another person is Katie who watched The Lion King 3D in Rugby Cineworld as it was close to her. She brought a Fanta Freeze which cost £2.80 and she liked the movie. She went about 5pm with Luke. The cinema was half full and the 3D was only average, the glasses cost a quid.
Lauren is going to watch Paranormal Activity 3 today with her friends at VUE cinema. She is going there with her friends and going there because it's close to her. She will buy nachos from there which cost about £4 and i believe this film will have many more people watching it, including me because it is made for us as a target audience and because it is a sequel it will be more interesting.

Overall, people spend about £10 on average in the cinema- which most of it will go towards the cinema ticket. The cinema only makes 10% of the ticket price as most of it goes to the film. Our age usually enjoys romcoms, scary movies and disney films. Many people always buy some food to compliment them at the cinema to eat whilst watching it.

MOON.

Duncan Jones is the director of a British low budget film called MOON. He is the son of the famous singer David Bowie which comes as a big advantage because this can easily get him into the film area he wants to go in. The script was co-written by Jones himself and Nathan Parker. Nathan Parker is a writer and (also does screen play) has won a BAFTA for his best screenplay for MOON and was also nominated for British Independent Film Award. Another famous person who had something to do with the making of the film is the producer Trudie Snyder. She has produced films such as Snatch and Lock Stock.
The original idea came from when Jones and Sam Rockwell (the main character in the film) met when Jones wanted Sam to do a film for him. As they started talking, they discussed things about themselves which eventually lead on to them talking about films to do about space and how there was a gap within the space film industry; this made Duncan Jones think about it and write out the script for MOON to have Sam Rockwell to star in this film and make it great.
The film was filmed in a short amount of time which was only 33 days! The setting they used was 85-90 feet (26-27m) in length and 70 feet (21m) wide. This was included in the tight budget they had of $5million, which is low for normal films they managed to fit everything within the price- which includes the small on screen cast of just Sam Rockwell. As the budget was small, Kevin Spacey waited for the film to be done before he put his voice on the mechanical robot ‘Gerty’.
It was produced at Shepperton Studios which is based in Surrey, England but now is part of Pinewood Studios Group which have branches all over the globe.

Distribution and Exhibition
Sony pictures worldwide acquisition group got the rights to sell the film in English and made the decision to not show it on cinema but to take it to a straight video release. It then premiered 2009 Sundance Film Festival which then made them decide to take it to cinema where it was first shown in LA and New York. They then had a English premiere in June and then was further released in UK and Australia.
