MOON.

Duncan Jones is the director of a British low budget film called MOON. He is the son of the famous singer David Bowie which comes as a big advantage because this can easily get him into the film area he wants to go in. The script was co-written by Jones himself and Nathan Parker. Nathan Parker is a writer and (also does screen play) has won a BAFTA for his best screenplay for MOON and was also nominated for British Independent Film Award. Another famous person who had something to do with the making of the film is the producer Trudie Snyder. She has produced films such as Snatch and Lock Stock.  

The original idea came from when Jones and Sam Rockwell (the main character in the film) met when Jones wanted Sam to do a film for him. As they started talking, they discussed things about themselves which eventually lead on to them talking about films to do about space and how there was a gap within the space film industry; this made Duncan Jones think about it and write out the script for MOON to have Sam Rockwell to star in this film and make it great.

 The film was filmed in a short amount of time which was only 33 days! The setting they used was 85-90 feet (26-27m) in length and 70 feet (21m) wide. This was included in the tight budget they had of $5million, which is low for normal films they managed to fit everything within the price- which includes the small on screen cast of just Sam Rockwell. As the budget was small, Kevin Spacey waited for the film to be done before he put his voice on the mechanical robot ‘Gerty’.

It was produced at Shepperton Studios which is based in Surrey, England but now is part of Pinewood Studios Group which have branches all over the globe.

Distribution and Exhibition

Sony pictures worldwide acquisition group got the rights to sell the film in English and made the decision to not show it on cinema but to take it to a straight video release. It then premiered 2009 Sundance Film Festival which then made them decide to take it to cinema where it was first shown in LA and New York. They then had a English premiere in June and then was further released in UK and Australia.
