Before: The Deals= $30million.
Script and Development= $10million. Only 5% of the total budget goes towards the script. The writed David Koepp got an eight figured cheque that day Some unpaid script doctors were brought in to rewrite certain scenes.
Licensing= $20million. Marvel owns the spider man character but then sony brought right to in in 1999. There has been ongoing fueds since and this made the price go higher. Stan Lee is the co-creater of spider man but acts as a executive producer for spider man 2. Marvel pay him $1million which is £540,000.
During: The Shoot= $100million.
The big money is given to the stars. A traditional weekly wage is given to the director and producer; this money is known 'above the line' costs and have to be paid even before cameras can role.
Producers= $15million. Big movies may have many producers. Spider man 2 had- two producers, one co-producer and three executive producers.
Director= $10million, Director is now usually chosen after casting. If the director diasgrees with a scene then changes it and can ask a large amount of money for doing their job. The Columbia Pictures chairman was suprised that Sam Raimi was hired as the director because he was not that famous.
Cast= $30million. Heath Ledger passed the role and then was given to Toby Maguire. For spider man he was paid $4million and for the sequel was offered $17million! Kirstin Dunst was paid $5-$6million and the new baddie, Alfred Molina $1million. The rest of the cast picked up £3million and the actors, agents and managers left with 10-15% of the clients' pay day,
Below the line= $45million. These are physical production expenses, including crew fees. Also: hiring and operating new equipment, occupying and leaving location and above all getting thousands of crew members. April 12th 2003 in New York, Spider Man 2 started to shoot and they spent 3weeks shooting in different locations.
After: The Edit= $70million.
Special effects= $65million. Alot of money is spent on editing, along with the 'above the line' costs this is another major part.
Music= $5million. Only 2% from budget spent on this. Danny Elfman did it for spider man for $2million. Sony made soundtrack which included songs by Jet and Train. Came number 4 on US charts and sold more than 2million copies worldwide.
Prints & Advertising= $75million. This is not included in budget, more is spent on it other than the $200million already spent.
